Sparks! Ignition Grant for Libraries

Rhetoric and Composition faculty and students receive Sparks! Ignition Grant for Libraries
[10.30.2016]

TAMPA, Fla. – USF English assistant professor Nathan R. Johnson, Ph.D. received a $23,293 Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Sparks! Ignition Grant for Libraries. IMLS provides these funds to encourage cutting-edge tools, procedures and practices for delivering library services.

The grant project team, assisted by Rhetoric & Composition graduate students Peter Cannon and Katie Walkup, sees The University of South Florida Department of English partnering with the School of Information and the Shimberg Health Science Library to develop a mental health literacy services program that will benefit residents of a local drug treatment center in the Tampa Bay Area. Many women in the program are economically disadvantaged, inadequately educated, and victims of abuse. The funding will be used to promote mental health literacy skills to aid in the recognition, management, and prevention of disorders in order to produce better treatment outcomes for those in recovery.
