CAS researchers publish findings in prestigious journal
[04.23.2013]
TAMPA, Fla. -- Two researchers from the College of Arts and Sciences recently had their findings published in the Cell Death & Disease Journal. Edward Haller, Department Integrative Biology, and Meera Nanjundan, Department of Cell Biology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology, utilized molecular biology, histology and electron microscopy to study the cellular response of normal and malignant ovarian epithelial cells to iron in their environment.
Collectively, their results implicate iron in modulating cell death in a Ras- and MAPK-dependent manner in ovarian cancer cells. The authors demonstrate that the MAPK signaling pathway is essential in modulating FAC-induced cell survival response in Ras-overexpressing/mutated cell lines.
